22/06/2022 Review: 16th Annual Meeting of the European Heritage Heads Forum The European Heritage Heads Forum (EHHF) is the networking event for the most important leading figures in monument preservation in each European country. This year's European Heritage Heads Forum successfully took place from 18 to 20 May 2022 in Scotland (Edinburgh). The European Heritage Heads Forum enables the exchange of information and experiences relating to the management of the historic environment in the 21st century. In this interview, the German representative to the Forum, Senior Government Official Wolfgang Karl Göhner (Ass. iur.) from the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Monuments reflects on three inspiring days focused on preservation, which especially revolved around the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine. 22/06/2022 denkmal 2022: Conference Programme – Event on Cultural Heritage and Climate Change The European Union has set a goal of climate neutrality by 2050 and set out a roadmap for common policy in the European Green Deal. The major challenges with regard to climate change also have an impact on the future of cultural heritage and monument preservation. To achieve the above goal, meaningful dialogue is urgently needed amongst keepers of cultural heritage, preservationists, experts and political specialists with a focus on developing an approach that is suited to the particularities of cultural heritage conservation. This year's meeting of Europa Nostra in cooperation with the Klassik Stiftung Weimar, the Deutsche Stiftung Denkmalschutz and the Berlin State Office for the Preservation of Monuments, which will take place as part of the denkmal conference programme, will contribute to this. 19/05/2022 50 Years of UNESCO World Heritage Convention – denkmal Joins the Celebration A temple threatened with submersion by the construction of a dam provided the initial spark for the idea of UNESCO World Heritage. The Abu Simbel temple was dismantled in 1960 and rebuilt at a higher location. The international community agreed that the temple had outstanding significance not only for Egypt but for all of humanity. The idea of shared cultural heritage sites was born. In 1972, this idea was finally set down in a treaty and this year the UNESCO World Heritage Convention is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Continue reading
19/05/2022 Funding for Research and Practical Use in the Field of Building Maintenance and Monument Preservation: The WTA at denkmal 2022 The International Association for Science and Technology of Building Maintenance and Monuments Preservation (WTA) will be exhibiting on the collective stand of the Fraunhofer Information Centre for Regional Planning and Building Construction (Fraunhofer IRB) this year. The WTA general meeting and other large events should already have taken place in 2020 together with other institutions for monument preservation. They have now planned three different highlights as part of denkmal 2022: The International General Meeting, support for the event focusing on "Monument Preservation in Times of Climate Change" and the presentation of the "WTA Young Professionals Awards". 17/03/2022 Castle Raesfeld Academy Celebrates Its 70th Anniversary at denkmal The Craft Academy at Castle Raesfeld located in the moated castle in Raesfeld in the district of Borken is a joint training facility of North Rhine-Westphalia's skilled crafts associations. Its establishment in 1952 was intended to provide trainees and company owners in the craft trades with more extensive business management skills and to prepare them for managerial tasks. Their current educational priorities are in the areas of business management and authorised expert services as well as monument preservation. For its 70th anniversary, the Castle Raesfeld Academy will also once again be in attendance at denkmal 2022. Continue reading
