Description

Digital data and information are the gold of the 21st century. Data must first be stored and then, of course, retrievable so that it can be worked with. Finding data, even years later, is often a problem. Perhaps the person who stored the data is no longer available or it has been forgotten where the digital data was stored. This situation leads to a loss of knowledge, which leads to problems and increased costs in the preservation of monuments. Knowledge about the structural condition and information about past repairs and restorations is essential to preserve a monument. The MonArch system (openmonarch.org) is the solution to precisely this challenge. It links information on a listed building or on buildings in general with its digital twin. Using the example of Cologne Cathedral, we will show you how the digital twin of Cologne Cathedral is represented in MonArch in the form of a point cloud, a 3D model and 2D maps. MonArch enables structured and graphical storage of the components of a building and allows you to navigate the information inventory graphically. It no longer matters where the data was physically stored. When searching for data, the desired component can be selected and further search criteria can be used to restrict the desired information so that only the relevant information remains - in line with the search.
