Strong together for the stock in the face of climate change

A new contribution from cultural heritage stakeholders

10:00 AM - 12:00 PM Thu 07. Nov

Short description

In May 2023, 22 associations and institutions published the position paper “Cultural heritage in a changing climate - contributions from cultural heritage stakeholders and climate science”, which was joined by numerous other signatories over the course of the year.

Description

The document represents a significant step towards addressing the challenges of climate change for cultural heritage. Since then, cultural heritage stakeholders have been actively promoting an interdisciplinary exchange of knowledge in order to strengthen their ability to act. They call for effective cooperation between practice and politics as well as between education, administration, research and society. Funding and research into the consequences of climate change appears to be essential. This commitment appears all the more urgent given that it has not yet been possible to effectively implement the climate targets of the Paris Climate Agreement.

Four signatories (DNK, VDL, ICOMOS, Verband für Bauen im Bestand) and the Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt (DBU) are following up on the position paper with an event at the “denkmal” trade fair on November 7, 2024 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.

The aim of this event is to provide information on the current status of developments and offer a platform for exchange and discussion on the topics covered in the position paper. The event is intended to help plan and promote the next steps in the cooperation and implementation of the goals formulated in the paper.
