High-fired gypsum was already being used in Asia Minor around 9,000 BC. The pyramid of Cheops in Giza (approx. 2,800 BC) and many other ancient buildings were constructed using gypsum mortar.
Since the early Middle Ages, applications of gypsum mortar in historical buildings have also been documented in Germany, Italy and France.
Unfortunately, these technologies have almost been forgotten over the last 200 years.
Bauhütte Quedlinburg GmbH demonstrates with numerous objects that this historic building material is of great importance in the preservation of historical monuments.

- Historic gypsum screed at Eberbach Monastery: Creating gypsum screed according to our own recipe.
