According to a UNEP report from 2022, the construction sector is responsible for 37 percent of global CO2 emissions - time to take a closer look and look for alternatives!
One possible place to find alternatives is history, because for thousands of years, efficient use of resources - and therefore a lean carbon footprint - was required for reasons of availability alone: People used what was available regionally and adapted construction methods and processing techniques accordingly. This also convinced the Bavarian State Ministry of Finance and Home Affairs, which is funding the project “Old craftsmanship relearned in the Bavarian-Czech border region”.
The results of the work on our experimental archaeological medieval construction site and the material work in the laboratory of the Bavarian-Bohemian Archaeocenter can be seen at various events in the History Park Bärnau-Tachiv and in practice on the construction site of the Bärnau Nature Village.
