For the reconstruction of the historic Löwenbrücke in Berlin's Tierpark, the requirements of monument protection are to be met based on the original design from 1838 in combination with the current regulations for stability and traffic safety.
The main task for the reconstruction of Berlin's oldest suspension bridge is to recreate the original structure using methods and materials that are as true to the original as possible.
As Wilhelm Modersohn GmbH & Co. KG has the manufacturer qualification DIN EN 1090 EXC 3, the company planned and manufactured a total of 90 special customised welded structures for the connection to the wind bracing and the tensioning structures of the historic lion sculptures.
Three lean duplex stainless steels (1.4062, 1.4162 and 1.4462) of corrosion resistance class III were used for the joining structures and various cut-to-size parts.
